The Institute for Media Studies gladly welcomes Sedef Süner as a new member of the IMS-team. She is a visiting researcher at the newly transformed mintlab and will join us from February to August 2016.
Sedef obtained her master’s degree in industrial design at Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara, Turkey, during which she focused on developmental and curricular considerations for the design of musical toys for preschool children. Afterwards she became a research assistant at the Department of Industrial Design, where she obtained teaching experience in design and culture, history of industrial design and design for sustainability. She also works as a user experience researcher in UTEST at METU.
Among her research interests are technology design for children, early user involvement and user-centered innovation. These interests are reflected in her doctoral research, which is concerned with developing a methodology to incorporate children’s perspectives into early design ideation process.
Leuven was an evident choice for Sedef because mintlab has a strong background in the study of children’s media and technology, which is in direct connection to her PhD research. During her time in mintlab, she hopes to benefit from and contribute to the well-established interdisciplinary research environment. The IMS wishes her much success in her time being here and hopes she has a valuable experience at the KU Leuven.
